The meat supply chain

The revelations that horsemeat had been discovered in “beef” products sold in the UK and other EU Member States has prompted widespread concern about food safety and standards in the meat supply chain. This meeting gave members an opportunity to hear Lord Rooker’s assessment, as Chair of the Food Standards Agency, of where the chief problems lie and what might be done to address them; as well as the issues that will covered by the review of the FSA’s response. It also gave members an opportunity to hear from representatives of two major food companies speaking about their meat supply chains: Michelle Hanson, Commercial Director at Sodexo, and David Croft, Director of Quality and Technical, at Waitrose.
