In accordance with the rules for Approved All Party Groups, Parliamentary members of the Forum attended the Forumís AGM on 11 October 2016. Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer, a longstanding FHF member and Officer, stepped down as an Officer because she will spend less time in Parliament over the year ahead for personal reasons. The other Officers expressed their thanks for her strong support for the Forum, particularly over recent years as our Co-Chair. In addition to electing Officers for the year ahead and approving the draft accounts, the Officers also discussed the forward programme. It was agreed that Forum members would meet next on 30 November when Dr Liam Fox MP, the Secretary of State for International Trade, will be speaking about the implications of Brexit for UK companies. Our next meeting thereafter will be held on 13 December when we plan to discuss official public health policies for diet and health with UK Public Health Ministers. Looking ahead to 2017, the Forum will hold meetings to discuss food supplements; whether people with diabetes should follow a low carbohydrate diet; and hold an update meeting, if the progress of Brexit negotiations and the Great Repeal Bill make this useful, to review the implications of both for the UK food industry. Other possible subjects for discussion in 2017, subject to the publication of relevant reports, include: action on obesity; cancer and nutrition; SACN advice on saturated fats and health; and progress in reducing salt intake in the UK, including the COT/SACN review. All meetings are subject to the availability of our preferred guest speakers and will be confirmed by the Secretariat in notices to members. As always the Officers welcome suggestions from members about the subjects to be discussed at FHF meetings, so please contact the Secretariat if you would like to propose a topic.
