On 28 March Lord Rea welcomed members to a meeting to discuss diet and diabetes and, in particular, whether a low carbohydrate diet is particularly beneficial for people with, or at risk of, type-2 diabetes. The expert guest speaker was Dr David Unwin, the Royal College of General Practitioners National Champion for Collaborative Care and Support Planning in Obesity & Diabetes and a RCGP Clinical Expert in diabetes. David Unwin is a practising GP in Southport, who has had excellent results with his type-2 diabetes patients by encouraging them to follow a low-carbohydrate diet.
